Cookie policy

In short: we do not place any cookies of our own. We only count how often the two test buttons are clicked, without storing anything about you. There is one exception, and it is set out below.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small file that a website puts on your device. It lets a site recognise you on a later visit. Some cookies are needed to make a website work, others serve to track visitors.

What we do not do

This website places no cookies of its own. We use no Google Analytics or other statistics package, no advertising networks and no social media trackers. The only thing we keep track of is how often the two test buttons on the home page are clicked. That is a bare number per day, without any detail about you, so no profile of you is built up.

The LinkedIn button in the footer is an ordinary link. It loads nothing from LinkedIn and only does anything when you click it.

The exception: the map on the contact page

The contact page shows a Google Maps map. It places Google cookies and sends your IP address to Google. That is why we do not simply load that map.

As long as you give no consent, instead of the map you see a panel with our address and a button. Nothing goes to Google. Only when you click Load map or accept the cookie notice is the map fetched.

Google decides the exact cookies, not us. Google describes them in its own privacy policy.

Remembering your choice

So that we do not have to ask you again on every page, we keep your answer in your own browser's storage under the name icares-cookiekeuze. That is not a cookie: it stays on your device and is never sent to our server. It only contains the word accepted or refused.

Files from other servers

The homepage shows a map of Europe. The country borders come from jsDelivr and the flags from Flagcdn. Your browser fetches those files there, which makes your IP address known to those services. They place no cookies and store nothing about you.

No consent is needed for this, because nothing is put on your device. We mention it anyway, because we think you should know.

Changing your choice

You can change your choice at any time. The cookie notice will then appear again.

If you want to erase everything websites have put on your device, you can also do that through your browser settings.
